Changing OSR standards support improved delivery

Offshore Safety Representatives Training

Following a review by an Industry Work Group (IWG), facilitated by OPITO, the Offshore Safety Representatives (OSR) Training Standard is changing.

In response, Petrofac Training Services has redesigned its OSR course, reducing the number of training days for the initial course – from four-and-half to four days. These changes will be implemented in June 2017.

Petrofac Training Services team participated in the IWG responsible for the review. It included representation from across the industry as well as the Step Change in Safety Workforce Engagement Support Team (WEST) and training providers.

The review provided an opportunity to refresh and update the OSR standard to incorporate changes in legislation, and to remove some of the theory aspects deemed unnecessary. The standard promotes the use of group exercises and discussion to enhance delegate learning.

Petrofac’s new OSR course will span four longer training days, but the redesign to remove the need for an additional half day has been implemented to benefit our customers and delegates. The time to be allocated for delivery of the initial and refresher training course has not changed.

Offshore Safety Representative Initial Training Four Day Courses to the new standard will be available at Petrofac Training Services every week from Monday 05 June 2017.
